13 Valuable materials used must be recovered and recycled to minimize 
   environmental disruption, and in addition, the technology for recovering and
   recycling materials itself must be well-adapted to the environment. In these 
   viewpoints, we develop the syntheses of biodegradable adsorbents using 
   polysaccharides for selective separation and recovery of semimetals, which 
   have attracted great attention because of their unique electronic, chemical 
   and biological properties as well as their industrial applications.
